Our Montreal location recently wrapped up another BrightDrop insulation project, and the results are worth sharing. As more fleets move to electric delivery vehicles, demand for temperature-controlled BrightDrop vans keeps growing. This build shows what an insulated and refrigerated BrightDrop cargo area looks like when it’s done right.
Why insulate a BrightDrop?
The BrightDrop is a purpose-designed electric delivery van, but its cargo area comes as an open, uninsulated space. For businesses moving food, pharmaceuticals, flowers or other temperature-sensitive goods, that isn’t enough.
Insulating the cargo area lets the van hold a set temperature and protects product from the moment it’s loaded. It also reduces the workload on the refrigeration unit, which matters even more on an electric platform where every bit of energy counts.
What we built
The photos from this project highlight the details:
- Fully insulated rear door. A sealed, insulated swing door with heavy-duty galvanized hinges and a positive-latch handle keeps cold air in and heat out on every stop.
- Smooth, wipe-clean white interior. Seamless white panelling lines the walls and ceiling, making the cargo area easy to clean and sanitize.
- Diamond-plate aluminum floor and kick plates. The floor and lower wall sections are protected with diamond-plate aluminum, built to handle loading and unloading day after day.
- Ceiling-mounted cooling unit. The evaporator sits at the top of the cargo area, keeping the floor clear and letting cold air circulate through the full space.
- Factory rear step and camera stay fully usable. The upfit works with the van’s original design, so drivers keep the easy step-in access BrightDrop is known for.

Built for real delivery routes
Whether it’s a grocery route, meal-kit delivery, floral service or medical courier, a temperature-controlled BrightDrop lets fleets take on cold-chain work with a zero-emission van. Because the insulation and refrigeration are done together, the cargo area is planned as one system, not a collection of add-ons.
